Invitation
Mary was alone again on Saturday. Her father, Harold, was on another business trip to Mississippi, and the house was all for himself, which meant that she could have pasta every day if she wanted to.

Her medication to lower her testosterone levels increased her weight, and her father was not keen on her pasta enjoyment.

Yellow dress:
It was another early sunset on a rainy day in Seattle. Andrew was walking into his city's studio apartment carrying a paper bag of groceries. He had obtained government permission to live in this apartment as part of the upbeat program, focusing on drug-infested neighborhoods in King County. It was an artist supplement program, and Andrew was a published haiku poet and teacher of haiku and public education and sometimes college. He was to attend an audition for artistic achievements to be able to receive subsidies. While it was a miracle to live in the city of Seattle for $ 800 a month, it had its downsides, with addicts visiting their haiku's weekly exhibitions and with minimal art created by their neighbor Patrick.

Short story:
Short story, short fictional prose narrative that is shorter than the novel and which usually works with only a few characters.

The short story usually relates to a single effect expressed in only one or a few important episodes or scenes. The form encourages the setting's economy, narrows the narrative, and the omission of a complex plot; The character is exposed in action and dramatic encounters, but is rarely fully developed. However, despite its relatively limited scope, a short story is often judged by its "full" or ability to provide satisfactory treatment of its characters and subject.

Prior to the 19th century the short story was not generally considered a separate literary form. But although in this sense it may appear to be a distinctly modern style, the fact remains that short prose fiction is almost as old as language.

Throughout history, mankind has enjoyed a wide variety of short stories: war, anecdote, digression of studies, short simile romances, briefing fairy tales, short myths and brief historical legends. None of these is a short story as it has been defined since the 19th century, but they form a large part of the mile from which the modern short story has emerged.

Style analysis:
As a genre, the short story received relatively little critical attention by the mid-20th century, and the most valuable studies of form were often limited by region or era. In his The Lonely Voice (1963), the Irish short story Frank O'Connor addresses an influential community, suggesting that the story has been seen as a tool for "submerged population groups". However, most other theoretical discussions were devoted in one way or another to Edgar Allan Poe's thesis that stories should have a compact unifying effect.

Most of the criticism so far on the examples of short stories focused on writing techniques. Many, and often the best of technical works, advise the young reader - to alert the reader to the variety of tools and tactics employed by the skilled writer. On the other hand, many of these works are no more than texts on "how to write stories" for a young writer rather than serious critical material.
